High Water Levels Cause 3 Locks To Close To Recreational Boaters

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Three waterways were closed to recreational boaters Friday by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul district due to increasing high water flows in the Mississippi River.

The locks closed included Upper St. Anthony Falls, Lower St. Anthony Falls and Minneapolis Lock and Dam 1, located next to Minnehaha Park in Minneapolis.

The district is required to close the lock and dams to recreational traffic when flows reach 30,000 cfs as high flows are unsafe for boaters, according to the Crops' Mississippi Valley Division manual.

Based on National Weather Service forecast, water flows won't be safe for recreational boaters again until late next week.
