Suspension Stands For Deputy Who Slammed Inmate

DENVER (AP) — Officials are upholding a 30-day suspension against a Denver sheriff's deputy who was captured on video slamming a handcuffed and shackled inmate into a courtroom wall.

Denver Sheriff Gary Wilson and Safety Director Stephanie O'Malley said Tuesday they were pleased that a hearing officer denied Deputy Brady Lovingier's appeal. Lovingier was disciplined after he slammed inmate Anthony Waller into a glass wall during a court appearance in 2012. Waller was in court facing charges in an assault case.

Lovingier says he used that much force because Waller was being aggressive and refused to follow orders.

Wilson and O'Malley say the discipline is just and "it is critical that the public knows the city will not tolerate the use of inappropriate force in any form."
