Boston Marathon Forecast: Ideal Conditions Now Possible

BOSTON (CBS) - Another day closer to the big race and the weather continues to look favorable for Marathon Monday.

In fact, this year's conditions may very well end up being near ideal for runners.

It is still a bit too early to "lock it up" and call for a lovely run from Hopkinton to Boston on Monday for a few reasons.

First, we are still five days out, still nearly an eternity for our atmosphere, and lots can and will change.

Second, there will be a few weather fronts in the vicinity, complicating the forecast a bit. We can still say with a good deal of certainty that there will be no major weather issues - no nor'easters or significant storms, no heatwaves or bitter cold and no strong winds on Monday.

For the next few days it will just be about hashing out the final details.

High pressure will crest over us on Sunday. There will be abundant sunshine and near normal temperatures in the mid 50's.

A weak warm front will approach on Monday morning and this will likely provide some clouds and perhaps a few sprinkles early in the morning.

At this point, it looks like by the time the race begins in Hopkinton, skies should be partly cloudy, winds should be light and temperatures rising through the 40's.

As the day wears on, winds should increase a bit out of the southwest ahead of an approaching cold front.

Temperatures will rise through the 50's midday and early afternoon and perhaps nick 60 degrees at points along the course in the afternoon.

Timing the cold front will be crucial as there will likely be a few showers along it.

Right now it appears that any rain showers would hold off until after the race, more towards the evening.

So let's break this all down:

Sky Conditions: Partly cloudy.
Precipitation Chances: About 25-percent, with the best chance early Monday morning and late in the day.
Temperatures: 40's at start, into the 50's throughout the course, and as high as 60 in spots.
Wind: Light in the morning, increasing out of the southwest during the day 10-to-15 mph, with possible veering to the southeast in Boston.

Possible complications? Nothing major.

A shift in the timing of the warm or cold fronts could mean additional clouds or showers during the race, but again, no "significant weather complications" are expected.
