Road Rage Victim Thought She Was 'Looking Her Killer In The Eyes'

DENVER (CBS4) – A Colorado woman attacked in a road rage incident thought she was looking into the eyes of her killer.

Denver police arrested Andrea Marquez, 31, over the weekend in connection with the case after getting a tip from Crime Stoppers.

The tip allowed officers to get an arrest warrant, and they stopped Marquez's vehicle on Saturday and took her into custody.

Marquez is accused of the road rage attack, which took place on March 12 on Interstate 70 near Colorado Boulevard in the middle of rush hour traffic.

The incident started with a brake tap and ended with the suspect blocking two lanes of traffic, getting out of her car, grabbing something from the truck and hitting the victim's car multiple times.

"I felt like my life was in jeopardy. I really did," said the victim, who spoke with CBS4 but asked to remain anonymous in part because she fears the suspect may still try to hurt her.

"I thought 'oh my gosh she's going to shoot me,' " she said.

The victim said the car behind her was following too close for comfort and she tapped her brakes. The woman in the other car, who police say was Marquez, then began throwing things.

"Why would she do something like that? And (I thought) 'Why would that make you that angry?' " said the victim.

The victim began taking photos and video of what was happening. That's when the woman allegedly pulled in front of the victim, blocking two lanes of heavy traffic and got out of her car.

"She came around the side of the car to open it and I thought 'I'm not opening that door,'" said the victim.

The suspect then went and returned to her own car and opened the trunk.

"When she got in her trunk to get whatever she was getting I thought she was getting a weapon," said the victim.

At this point the victim managed to drive away but not before the suspect struck her car several times with a metal object, leaving nearly $2,000 in damage.

The victim told CBS4 she hopes the suspect gets anger management classes and pays for the car damage.

"My intent was the law will handle this and I truly believe it will," said the victim.

Marquez has a criminal record including a DUI charge. She now faces a criminal mischief charge.
