Decision On Miami-to-Orlando Train To Come Tuesday
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – On Tuesday, Disney-lovers, vacationers and business travelers alike will learn whether a train will be built that transports them from Miami to Orlando International Airport.
The Florida Department of Transportation will either approve or reject a bid by All Aboard Florida to build the privately financed $1 billion train, the South Florida Business Journal reports.
All Aboard Florida was the only company that made a pitch for the train project, which will use tracks owned by sister company Florida East Coast Railway for 200 miles from downtown Miami to Cocoa.
From there, the train's path most likely would be along the southern edge of the Beach Line, which is owned by the state and the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority. A deal over that land could not be finalized without making sure no better offers were available, the Orlando Sentinel reports.
If agreements can be reached with the state, the expressway authority and the airport, construction could start as soon as next year.
