Former Sixer Caldwell Jones Passes Away At 64

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Former Sixer Caldwell Jones passed away due to a heart attack. He was 64.

Jones played 17 years of professional basketball, 14 in the NBA and three in the ABA. Jones' career with the Sixers began in 1976 and the center played six seasons with the franchise.

The Sixers today issued a statement on Jones that came from the team CEO Scott O'Neil:

"We are truly saddened to learn of the passing of a special member of the Sixers family, Caldwell Jones. He was a consummate teammate, a friend to many and a player who was beloved and respected throughout the league. Our franchise and fans will always remember the impact and contributions Caldwell made to the city of Philadelphia.

"On behalf of our entire organization, we extend our deepest condolences to the entire Jones family during this difficult time."

Jones also played in the NBA for Houston, Chicago, Portland and San Antonio. Jones made the NBA All Defensive First Team two times with the Sixers (1981-1982).
