Dixon Challenger Little Leaguers Get Boost From Buddies

DIXON (CBS13) -- On a dusty field in Dixon, a gentle breeze blows as gentle helpers stand as tall as giants.

From cerebral palsy to muscular dystrophy to autism and other learning disabilities, the ability of these boys to overcome obstacles is inspiring.

But as the Dixon Challenger Little League Marlins coach will tell you, "The players are half the story—the buddies are the other half."

Buddies like 12-year-old Garrett—"I never want to miss a practice. I just want to see this big ol' smile right here."

From a smile that lights up the diamond, to a joyful trek toward home—complete with a happy dance—there are more special moments than you can count. Every hit looks big, and every miss just doesn't seem to matter.

Inspired by encouraging smiles and pats on the back, heroes push their buddies to a place they never thought they'd be able to go.

It's more than a helping hand—it's a life lesson. It's a time to give kids who've been on the outside looking in the chance to feel right at home.

This is the first year for the Dixon Little League Challenger Division, and they could use a helping hand. They're playing with old equipment and they'd like to go play in tournaments.

If you're interested in helping out, just go to the Dixon Little League website.
