Boston Bombing Suspects Originally Planned 4th Of July Attack

BOSTON (CBS) - The brothers who allegedly carried out the deadly bombings at the Boston Marathon finish line had originally planned an attack on July 4th, CBS News has learned.

CBS correspondent John Miller reports that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev told authorities the bombs were made in his brother's Cambridge apartment, and they were planning to use them on the Fourth of July.

The brothers instead allegedly took the bombs in backpacks to Boylston Street on April 15. Three people were killed and over 200 were injured when the bombs exploded shortly before 3 p.m.

Dzhokhar says his brother, Tamerlan, brought him into the plot a couple of months before the attack.

Tamerlan allegedly shot and killed an MIT police officer before he died in a shootout with police in Watertown. Dzhokhar was captured after a manhunt.

Tamerlan's body was claimed on Thursday and was transported to a North Attleboro funeral home.
