Patrol: Motorcyclist, Clocked Going 130 MPH, Killed In Brooklyn Park

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 23-year-old motorcyclist was going 130 mph on a freeway before he collided with an SUV in Brooklyn Park, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

At a press conference Monday, the State Patrol said cops began following Tyron Somaiah of Crystal, Minn., after clocking him at 130 mph on his 2005 Yamaha Road Street.

Then, as he was heading northbound on Brooklyn Boulevard, he ran a red light at Welcome Avenue North. He then collided at a right angle with a 2006 Toyota Rav4 that was in the intersection already, the State Patrol said.

Somaiah was killed.

The driver of the Toyota, identified as 57-year-old Oudung Thammavongsa of Brooklyn Center, suffered a minor injury.

At least eight people were killed on Minnesota roads this past weekend, which makes it the deadliest weekend of the year.
