Attorneys File Defamation Suit Against Courtney Love

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Courtney Love is being sued by her former lawyers for allegedly defaming them on Twitter.

San Diego-based Gordon & Holmes filed the suit against the singer-actress in Los Angeles Superior Court Thursday. The suit, which seeks unspecific damages, also alleges invasion of privacy and intentional interference with a prospective economic advantage.

According to the suit, Gordon & Holmes represented Love from December 2008 to May 2009 but at one point, Love allegedly objected when asked by one of the firm's members that she refrain from substance abuse during their representation.

Love allegedly fired the firm but later requested that they resume representing her. The firm declined, according to the suit.

"Due to the lack of any indication Love would honor the condition to refrain from substance abuse for at least the duration of (the) attorney-client relationship... plaintiffs declined to again take on Love's representation," the suit says.

Love then allegedly began making statements on Twitter that the attorneys had taken a bribe.

"Love intended to communicate to others the false statement about Holmes which wrongly accused plaintiffs of engaging in improper, immoral, illegal, criminal and unethical conduct," the lawsuit alleges.

Love's current attorney, James Janowitz, did not immediately return a call for comment.

In March, Love settled a lawsuit with a designer who also alleged she defamed her on Twitter.
