CHP Officer Accused Of Burglary

VACAVILLE, Calif. (CBS13) --
A CHP officer assigned to the California Capitol was arrested for allegedly attempting to steal from a Target store, authorities said.

The Vacaville Police Department said Shawn Hammonds intended to steal electronics equipment from the Vacaville retailer on Monday, but was pulled over a few miles away in a business park.

Hammonds has been an officer assigned to the Capitol for about 5 years, according to authorities. Nobody answered the door when CBS13 visited Hammonds' last known address.

The CHP said Hammonds has not officially been put on leave yet but has not reported to work since his arrest Monday. He has been charged with burglary.

Details surrounding the alleged incident have not been released by investigators.
