St. Mary's River In Md. Nears Record High
BALTIMORE (AP) -- The National Weather Service says the St. Mary's River in southern Maryland is nearing its all-time high.
The river was at 12.6 feet at 11 p.m. Saturday after Hurricane Irene dumped up to eight inches of rain in the area.
The weather service says the record high there was just over 13.3 feet on Aug. 20, 1969. That was due to rain from the remnants of Hurricane Camille.
Flood warnings are also out for Seneca Creek near Dawsonville in Montgomery County, and for small streams on the lower Eastern Shore and northern Accomack County, Va.
Flash flooding has closed roads in Baltimore and Anne Arundel, St. Mary's and Prince George's counties.
