Connecticut Now Has One Of America's Highest Gasoline Taxes

HARTFORD, Conn. (WCBS 880) - Connecticut now has the distinction of having the highest gasoline tax in the lower 48 states - a whopping 70.3 cents for every gallon purchased.

Sen. Scott Frantz of Greenwich says the rising price of oil has boosted the gross receipts tax, pushing Connecticut beyond California.

"It looks as though that's going to stay as a trend for the long-term," he says. "The disturbing thing is that the forecasters say that within five years, we're looking at easily, a $150 per barrel of oil."

Frantz and other Republican lawmakers want to ease up on these Connecticut gasoline taxes, but the legislature is ruled by Democrats.

Frantz said it's against the Democrats "DNA" to lower taxes.
