Miami Police Make Arrest After Late Night Deadly Shooting

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Miami police have made an arrest after a man was gunned down late Wednesday night.
Just before 11:30 p.m. they received word of the shooting at SW 31st Avenue and SW 27th Lane.
When officers arrived they the body a man who appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound.
Police have identified the victim as 36-year-old Paulo Sanchez.
Under arrest is Michael Fernandez, who according to an arrest report was located at the scene of the shooting by responding officers.
Fernandez, 28, was transported to the City of Miami Police Homicide Unit where he provided a statement.
Per the report, Fernandez admitted to shooting Sanchez at least four times; three times from approximately 10 feet away and again as Sanchez fled.
According to police, records indicate that Fernandez does not have a concealed weapons license in the state of Florida.
Neighbors in the area woke to flashing lights and police activity.
"I'm scared," said Mercedes Iglesias.
Iglesias said she heard the shots.
"Three shots at 11 o' clock," she said.
Another neighbor said he thought the man was in his late 20s and used to live in an apartment on the block.
"I feel very bad, he was so young," said Iglesias.
"It's scary. I've lived in this area my whole life and when it happens right outside your door it's a little scary," said Dave Elmer.
Another neighbor, Eddy Aguirre, told CBS4's Peter D'Oench, "I heard 4 shots. Dah-dah-dah-dah. LIke that. When I saw what was going on outside my bedroom window I decided not to go outside and go back to BED and stay in my bed because I did not want bullets to come in and kill me. I want police to arrest this person who did this because he is a danger to everybody."
Aguirre and Elmer said there have been crime problems before in their neighborhood.
"I have heard about a lot of drug dealings in this area," sad Elmer. "You see a lot of shady characters here in the area."
Aguirre said, "Sometimes you hear a lot of shots where cars are parked in the area."
Two vehicles with bullet holes were towed from the scene.
