Manteca police release footage of fatal shooting of suspect at In-N-Out
MANTECA — Manteca police on Friday released footage of a fatal encounter with a suspect outside the In-N-Out on Yosemite Avenue on April 30.
The footage includes police body and dash cam video as well as video from an In-N-Out drive-thru camera and shows the entirety of the situation, including how it started.
Manteca resident Charles McGonegal II, 69, was identified as the suspect and driver of a white SUV seen in the footage first ramming a black car in the drive-thru before moving to the parking lot, where McGonegal was met by law enforcement officials. Manteca police said the incident began sometime after 4 p.m.
McGonegal can be seen ramming into a police car twice before law enforcement officials opened fire for the first time.
Police said the suspect backed up the van and rammed it into three other police vehicles. This is when police said they opened fire again, wounding McGonegal.
He was taken to an area hospital where he was declared dead.
Police said McGonegal had a criminal history that dates back to 1972 and spans multiple states.
Manteca police said five officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave per department policy.
No officers were hurt in the incident.
